SyncManager-Enterprise Installation

Both SyncManager and DavSync are available in Enterprise Versions. Installing these systems as an Enterprise solution is a three stage process:

1. Set up a Sync Service Account

Firstly you need to set up an account that will be used to run the service. This account needs to be given permission to update the folders involved in the synchronisation - including each user's personal mailbox folders. This is similar to the process required for a Blackberry Enterprise Server account.

2. Install the Configuration Management Software

Secondly you need to install the Configuration Manager which will help you set up the synchronisation for each individual user. This sets the folders to be synchronised and any parameters for each folder (categories/special options etc).

3. Install the Synchronisation Service

Lastly you need to set up the Synchronisation Service. This is the service which runs on the server, logs directly onto Microsoft Exchange, and synchronises each folder set in the configuration.

We prefer clients to set up a dedicated Sync Service user account (e.g. “SyncManager”, "SyncService" or similar) which has all the Exchange permissions required to allow that user to update the other users’ mailboxes. If you already have a BESAdmin type of user account (for Blackberry use), this may be used.

To install the configuration manager application, you should log in using the Sync Service account to ensure that you have enough permissions to configure the users’ mailboxes for synchronisation. We recommend setting up the Configuration Manager on the server (using the File storage option); alternatively you can install it on a workstation (using the Outlook storage option), but the overhead with this option is you will have to copy the System config file from the workstation to the server when any system settings are changed (not the user config records, as these are stored in Outlook for this option).
